Securing Your Mobile Home

Securing any home against the professional and determind burglar can be difficult, and that is certainly true when it comes to mobile home security.
Many mobile home owners invested in their mobile for vacations, with the mobile being stationed on rented ground in a mobile home park close to a beach or tourist area. Because the are absent from the mobile for long periods of time, there can be ample opportunity for a burglar or vandal to ‘try their luck’ with a break in.
The situation may seem hopeless for the home owner, but there is steps you can take to discourage most burglars from forcing their way into your property.
Mobile Doors And Windows
Mobile home doors are designed to seal tight when closed and hold the heat in and keep the elements out. These doors are very thin and made of pretty flimsy material, and they can easily be prised open with a pry bar. It may be necessary to replace the door with a sturdier model to prevent easy access this way.
When it comes to locking the door a heavy deadbolt lock is probably not a good idea. A determined burglar will just end up doing more damage to the door and door frame to gain entry. It’s better to have a sturdy lock that will keep casual opportunists from gaining entry rather than risking more damage if a real break in attempt occurs.
Replacing windows with wire mesh glass will decrease the chance of a entry. Glass toughened with wire can still be broken, but the wire will hold the fragments together making it all but impossible for the burglar to get any further with this method of entry.Add contact alarms to doors and windows. These inexpensive alarms work by creating a circuit while the window is closed. When the window/door is opened the circuit breaks, sounding a high-pitched alarm. It is best to ensure there is a key left with your mobile home park attendant or trusted neighbor encase the alarm is set off while you are hundreds of miles away. Mobile Home Surveillance
Surveillance cameras probably won’t be of much use in most cases, unless you have registered with a home security monitoring service. The cause of such services can mount but there will probably be a reduction in your mobile home insurance policy so don’t rule it out. Find out more about residential security monitoring services.
Mobile Park Security
Always enquire to the mobile park manger about what precautions they have taken to secure the property where you mobile is stationed. If your mobile is located in a well managed park, the chances of it being broken into are greatly reduced. Arrange to call the park manager occasionally to enquire that the property is secure and has not been tampered with by vandals.
Taking these few simple steps to ensure your mobile home security will give you peace of mind and may even reduce your insurance policy.
