Choosing Home Security Installers
Now that you have decided to install security in your home you have to decide if you are going to do a diy home security system or get a contractor. The following points will help you when considering the services of home security installers.
- Make sure you check the installer’s credentials. They may be a handyman and not have any certification but it’s still important to get a good idea of their competence to do the work correctly.
- Agree your home security cost and budget, and if possible get that agreement in writing with your contractor.
- It may be best to go home security installers that did work for someone you know. That way you can find out the quality of their work. Also, if the person who referred them was happy with the work, but lets say the installers didn’t tidy up after the job, you can highlight the importance that they do a tidy job and remove all rubbish when finished.
- A good idea is to insure the installer carries liability insurance, particularly if you are using a company of professional home security installers. The local handyman may not have insurance but that’s a trade off you’ll have to decide whether to make.
- Find out if the installer has had many other customers and that they are capable of doing the job correctly. Ask for at least three references for the same or similar type of work and don’t be shy about calling those customers and asking if you can see the installation. You certainly don’t want to be the installers first customer and your home his training site. If things go wrong, you’ll be the one left to pick up the pieces (and paying the price).
- You can buy home security cameras direct and most other home security systems online from sites like Amazon, so you may decide to supply the equipment yourself. This way you may get a better deal. However, it would be best to involve your installer at this point as they will know what length cables will be required and any extra security accessories required.
- If your home security installer is going to supply the equipment then ask for an inventory of the products they intend to use and verify that they at least meet you basic requires.
- If going with a professional security installation company, request a written guarantee that covers the installation and any additional work that may need to be done later on.
- Most importantly, if you don’t get a good feeling about the person you interview about installing your home security system then look for someone else or do it yourself.
These are important points to consider when seeking a home security installer. Do your due diligence and make sure you are absolutely comfortable with the choice you make. A little planning work in advance may save you a lot of trouble in the long run.
